Important - What is a Grade 3 Ballast IBC?
A Grade 3 Ballast IBC is an industrial container sold strictly as-is. They are entirely suitable for storing and holding fluids, but cannot be classed as reconditoned due to the condition of the frame and inner bottle.
These units are not cleaned, not refurbished and not suitable for storing potable water or sensitive liquids.
What to expect
These IBCs have not been processed in any way. Typical conditions include:
- Leftover liquid or residue from previous use
- Rusty, damaged or partially blocked outlets
- Dirty or stained outer bottle (no washing carried out)
- Rusted or bent cage sections
- General wear consistent with end-of-life containers
Photos of these conditions can be seen in the image gallery. But please note the images show typical conditions, not a guaranteed appearance.
What they can be used for
Although unsuitable for liquid storage, Grade 3 IBCs will hold water and are widely used as cost-effective ballast. When filled, each unit provides up to 1 tonne of weight.
Common applications include:
- Marquee ballast where stakes cannot be used
- HGV ballast for laden testing
- Stage ballast for events and festivals
- Hospitality tent ballast
- Temporary structures on hardstandings

What is an IBC?
Intermediate bulk containers (IBC) are reusable industrial containers which are designed for the safe transportation and storage of bulk liquids. They are stackable containers, mounted on a pallet that is designed to be moved using a forklift or pallet jack. The maximum stacking of empty IBCs is four containers high. When full, only two can be stacked. The tubular galvanised steel frame around the container guarantees utmost stability. This also fits perfectly into the grooves of a plastic pallet; both below and above the container, which enables an exact positioning and problem-free stacking. Please Note: The image is used for illustration purposes only – the look of the IBC supplied may vary slightly whilst dimensions remain the same. This is due to suppliers reconditioning numerous containers from different manufacturers, so they may differ in appearance.
